Mrs. A. V. Wacasey -Secretary

Mrs. Wacasey was secretary to Principal Dee Cunningham for 17 years in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Many of us PHS girls got our first office experience as assistants in the principal’s office. She died in May 2003.

 

Regina Jo Wacasey, 82, of Paris died Sunday, May 18, 2003, on her 58th wedding anniversary, in Christus St. Joseph's Hospital South.  Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home will hold funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Armstrong officiating and Pastor Jim Hollingsworth assisting.  Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery with Othoe Stegall officiating.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Roden Funeral Home.  She was born Regina Jo Smith Sept. 24, 1920, in Lamar County, the daughter of Joe Willie and Hattie Lee Paulk Smith.  She married A. V. Wacasey on May 18, 1945, in Paris.  She worked most of her life as a secretary, several years for First Federal during World War II, then for First Christian Church for several years.  She later retired after 17 years of service as the secretary for Dee Cunningham at Paris High School.  She was a member of First Christian Church of Paris.  She loved people, never meeting a stranger.  She loved her dogs, her church and the many friends she had.  She never gave birth to a child but had so many children that she helped raise and who remained very special to her throughout her life.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Gladys Tharp and Odell Reed.  Survivors include her husband of 58 years, A. V. Wacasey of Paris; sisters, Louise Mullens and Lottie Tharp, both of Paris; nieces and nephews, Jo Heuberger of Paris, Lou Davis of Houston, Smith Mullens of Castor, La., Robert Tharp of Paris, Margie Kellum of Amarillo, Debbie McEntyre of Powderly, Jack Tharp of Paris and Pat Vanderpool of Dallas; special friends, Mark Thurmon and wife, Sharon, of El Dorado Ark., Kay Thurmon of Wichita, Kan., Dr. Joe G. Thurmon and wife, Pat Jessee, of Gainesville, Peggy Thurmon Morgan of Arlington, Sue Hooper of Amarillo and Alice Byas of San Antonio; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces and a number of friends.  The Wacasey family would like to thank her caregivers for their friendship and help; Joann Smith, Kathy Henry, Cleta Mathis and many church family friends.  Proposed pallbearers will be Mark Thurmon, Dr. Joe G. Thurmon, Robert Tharp, J. T. Davis, John Fielding and Gerald Byas."

My parents lived next door to the Wacaseys for over 40 years. It was decided for me when I was in first grade that I would be an office assistant! Mrs. Wacasey had a lot of patience putting up with us girls in her office.
