Rock Rollins

THE PARIS NEWS, Tues., May 22, 1990, p. 9A:  "Ex-PHS great Rollins dies - Many Paris High alumni and faculty members were shocked Monday to learn of the death of 1969 graduate Rock Rollins, who died last May 28, from a heart attack in Chapel Hill, N.C.  Rollins (6-4, 240 pounds) played as both an offensive and defensive end for the 1968 Paris team and was listed as the No. 1 blue chip athlete in the state. He had over 100 scholarship offers but selected Southern Methodist University over the University of Oklahoma.  Rollins still holds the shot put record at Paris.  J. T. Davis, a coach at Paris High, said Rollins may have been one of the three best athletes in the school's history.  He is survived by Boots Rollins, his mother, who currently lives in Florida.  Rollins was working as the head bookkeeper for the University of North Carolina.  He had no children."
