 James Stephen Rhodes, 59, of Paris died Friday, June 25, 2010, at Paris Regional Medical Center-North.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at United Pentecostal Church of Paris with Rev. Robert Myre and Sister Caronda Adams officiating. Burial follows in Tigertown Cemetery. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

The family receives friends from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

He was born Aug. 27, 1950, in Deport, to James V. and Vera Betterton Rhodes. He married Monica Thompson June 30, 1990, in Paris. He was produce manager for many years for Safeway Food Stores and retired from Babcock & Wilcox Corporation. He was a member of United Pentecostal Church of Paris.

He is survived by his wife, Monica Rhodes of Paris; three children, Stephi Rhodes and her fiancé, Scott Johnson of Bogata, Savannah Rhodes and Stephen Rhodes, both of Paris; three grandchildren, Chandler and Parker Conrad, and Gus Johnson; one sister, Greta Moore and husband, Ray, of Sherman; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pat and Jesse Cochran of Paris; an aunt, Neva Whitlow Newberry, and husband, Robert, of Paris; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Paul Rhodes; and his father-in-law, Rodger Thompson.

Pallbearers are Joe Cochran, Stacy Cunningham, Cody Newberry, Murray Riddles, Gary Duke and Ronald Cummings.

For the past week, sounds of weeping, laughter, pain and encouragement have echoed down the corridors of the hospital. These noises were all a result of a heartfelt love that family and friends carry for a tall, handsome Steve Rhodes and his precious wife and children. His gentle, kind presence will be deeply missed.
