Sorry I missed all the fun this weekend. I want to thank Mike Bowden and everyone that work so hard on the reunion and Marilyn I can't wait to see the pictures. I did get to spend the day (Saturday) with Jeanne Green and we had such a good visit. Everyone stay in touch and be safe.

Too bad for everyone that couldn't attend. It was by far the best reunion yet. I made it back to San Antonio in record time (a little over 5 hours)....It must be that I was reliving all of the fun in my mind. I think I was speeding just a little or flying low...one of the two. Again....thanks to everyone for all of the hard work to make the weekend a success.

Just when you think you have heard it all this pops up and stares in your face. Just got home, and a friend had sent the following. There was no way I could be selfish and not share with all in the 'Wildcat Nation'. After what we just shared and come out on the other end of.

Just for you Karen, since yours is the next birtday to be observed.

Love and blessings to all,
Sidney Gross

Enjoy the ride; there is no return ticket

George Carlin on aging!
(Absolutely Brilliant)
IF YOU DON'T READ THIS TO THE VERY END, YOU HAVE LOST A DAY IN YOUR LIFE. AND WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED, DO AS I AM DOING AND SEND IT ON.

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling.. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But! Wait!! ! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, and REACH 50 and make it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into! your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them.'

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. ! Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever, even ham radio. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's family name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments
that take our breath away.
And if you don't send this to at least 8 people - who cares? But do share this with someone. We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!

Life's journey is not to
arrive at the grave safely
in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways,
totally worn out, shouting
"...holy sh*t ...what a ride!"

Greetings ALL!!!! What a great weekend...I haven't "socialized" that much in the past 10 yrs!!!! It was absolutely wonderful to see everyone and wish everyone else could have been there. Maybe next time those that couldn't attend will be there. I really feel blessed to have soooo many classmates that I have memories with and can truly call friends. Thank you to everyone for making it a great time...never enough time to talk in length with everyone. Hey, you all look WONDERFUL!!!!
Best to you all, Cheryl

It was a wonderful weekend, those who could not make it you missed a great time, but as I said earlier you were not forgotten. Hope to see you at the next one. Again, I want to thank EVERYONE who worked on this. It was awesome. I don't believe it could have been planned any better. A special thanks to Larry Dority for the wine tour, GREAT. Another one to Duane Hamil for the memorial service, his message was moving. All of you who were there it was great to see you again. Best wishes to all and keep in touch.

Sue Stevens (Daugherty)

I also wanted to say what a wonderful weekend it was!! All 3 days. It was like a grade school and high school reunion all in one. It was so exciting seeing some people that had never come to any reunions show up for this one. Mike did an excellent job with the organizing of the tournament and the webite we have all enjoyed has been awesome! Can't wait for the next one and I hope you all vote to do it again in 5 years. Ten years is just too long to wait! I might still be able to play golf in 5 years, but 10 years might be questionable!

I'm already wishing I could roll back the clock and enjoy last weekend again.

Thanks to everyone who contributed so much so that we all could enjoy being together.

We're all lucky to have one another.

I had a better time at the reunion than I have had in years. I very much enjoyed talking with old friends, some of whom I had not seen in 40 years. I thank all of you for giving me a week-end I'll remember forever (providing that I avoid Alzheimer's).

Thank you, Mike Bowden, for your considerable planning and leadership skills in making this event happen.

Thank you Mike Sanders for sharing the product of your cooking skills with us. Thank you Larry Jordan for your work in helping Mike cook (now, Larry, you may have been the chief chef, but Mike's spin is that you were the help -- thank you regardless).

Thank you Keith Nash (and the rest of the singers / musicians) for providing such quality entertainment. Thank you Clift Sammons for your two songs.

Thank you Larry Dority (and your dear wife) for your genuine hospitality and allowing us to tour your winery. We bought a good supply and we're still sampling it at home now.

Thank you Marilyn Avery for taking pictures at the reunion.

I am aware that these two ladies did contribute their efforts, but I'm not aware of the entire extent of their efforts: Thank you Donna Perkins (Butcher) for initially notifying me about the event, and for all the other effort you put into helping and planning. Thank you Cheryl Caldwell (Brown) for efforts in helping with the entire reunion.

I do know that several other folks (including Bob Gurley, Linda Fagan (Chanler), and I'm sure others) were involved in the success of accomplishing this reunion, but unfortunately I did not pay enough attention to know exactly who helped or exactly what they did. But please know that you have my sincere appreciation.

I look forward to another reunion in a few years. Maybe I can even help with the next one.

Found out that a few of you are my neighbors here in Dallas. You know who you are !! Let's all get together for dinner.
Betsy, if you read these comments, best of luck with your restaurant opening this next weekend !! I look forward to enjoying the cuisine !!

And Butch...hope I don't beat you to the Alzheimers!!!! So glad you decided to attend. What are all of you doing next weekend!hahaha

Mike Bowden

I want to be sure that all the praise for a fun reunion gets distributed to all the folks that worked so hard to make the weekend be successful and fun.

First off, I loved doing my part and look forward to another round. And I thank you for all the recognition I received as the "front man" for the reunion. Catching up with people I haven't seen in years and years was unbelievably rewarding on a personal level and I was pleased to see so many people reconnecting with others. Helping to enable that reconnection is an enormous pleasure for me.

This weekend would have never been so successful without the work of many people. We divided up the work and found time in our busy lives to do our part. At the risk of leaving out someone who helped I would like to list those who played large roles in planning and executing the reunion.... each of them deserves a huge thank you!

Pat Sparks Bell
Cheryl Caldwell Brown
Donna Perkins Butcher
Barbara Fitzgerald Hays
Scott O'Brien
Karon Oakes Floyd
Rea Crabtree Bowden
Brenda Hatcher Farmer
Sue Stevens Daugherty
Clift Sammons
Bob Gurley
Lauren Murphy English
Mike Sanders
Larry Don Jordan
DeeDee Mills Alsup
Georgia Woodfin Leddy
Betsy House Mills
Duane Hamil
Linda Fagan Chanler

While the list is lengthy, I'm sure I left someone off the list who contributed to the reunion -- please accept my apology and thanks!

As you can see by the long list of people, we tried to get many folks involved to make this reunion one to remember... I think we may have pulled it off!

See ya next time
Mike

For each name on Mike's list of helpers above, there is probably someone else who helped that person. Iva Hargroves (Bobby's wife) and Dawn Legate Oats helped me, and I appreciate them.

Hey Hey Hey-
Karla and I had a great time this weekend. I did not have a chance to visit with everyone, however, it was good to see our old classmates. Mike Bowden did a super job, and all who helped should be commended. Maybe in 5 years we can do it again.

Call it ego or whatever you wish, but I can not let the chance pass to post note # 69. Oh, what a wonderful number and a great year to remember. Oh yeah, we did just celebrate the 40th anniversery of that epic time.

Just wanted again to thank all who came for making the reunion so pleasent and joyous a memory for me. Hope that you got as much from the weekend as you all added to my wonderous experience.

Bless each and all who attended and also those unable to make the scene. Those not able to attend have all added so much with your postings, that your spirit was felt at all activities and events. Thank you for staying on the message board with all of your comments and encouragements. Let's try and all be there in 5 years and do it up right. Again.

SOME FANTASTIC FEEDBACK FOR THE REUNION COMMITTEE from Rebecca Wells.....

I emailed privately with Becky Wells and she says she has been to many, many reunions and this one was by far the best one she has been to!!!
So, that's feedback with some benchmarks we didn't have.

This was of course my first one - but I can't imagine how I could have had a better time. I started out thinking that three days of events would just be too much - but it definitely was not.

As the photographer, next time I would recommend catching everyone as they were coming in the door so that you are sure you get a picture of every person. In the hit or miss style I chose -it was a little too casual...but honestly I didn't want to spoil the mood. if I missed someone or a group photo you now wish we had -I sincerely apologize. I am the biggest pain in the neck to my family always snapping pictures - but they still love me at the end of the day. So I hope you do too. The method I used turned out to be a less than perfect strategy since in addition to looking older and older - I had a hard time remembering who I snapped and who I didn't. I took 180 Pictures.

I am thinking about starting a reunion photo business as kind of a retirement job...so if you have any other recommendation for me, please email me - I promise to take it as constructive.

I appreciate everything everyone did to make this, at least for me, the perfect reunion - especially you Mike for your leadership - herding cats is not an easy job. They say behind every great leader - is a wonderful woman...that would be you Rea!!! Thanks for getting the USB drive back to me so quickly.

Thanks again to all and stay safe & healthy until we meet again. If you are interested - in about a month I will be posting pictures from Indonesia...that is where I am headed in just a few days.

MARILYN

I would have to echo all of the thoughts and comments that I have just read. This past weekend was great! The chance to see old friends and remember the days of our youth was absolutely wonderful. It was a real thrill to see all of you, visit and find out what you were doing. We really should do this again in five years.

To all of you who helped plan this, kudos of the highest order are due you. I would not trade the experience or the memories for anything. God bless you all and I hope to see you at our next reunion.
